October 25th, 2016 I had the pleasure to go to a forum about gun violence, racism, and art. I got to meet Marlos Evans and a few more great artist. I thought the forum was amazing. I am an Urban Studies/ Community Develop major and an art minor. It lined up with everything I am trying to do in life, such as uniting the community to come together, clean up the urban community and use art to do so. It will allow the youth and citizens of the urban community take pride in their cities. I thought it was interesting that one of the artist was automatically blamed to be the problem when he was the actually the victim, trying to protect a female. I agree with Mr. McBride on the fact that we have been dealing with cops killings and racism. I get frustrated because my generation is all talk but not a bout action. That is why I have decided to actually go into a field that will help better the lives of Blacks and other minorities in America. I also have implemented the whole anger can be u...

Lacy Lewis - Inspiration

Image
I have followed this Kansas City, Mo artist since my senior year. My love for painting is real. But I am amazed by how Lacy Lewis uses oil paint. Her strokes are so smooth. This painting is called Approaching Storm Oil on Canvas on Dibond Panel 48" x 24"

First, I created a 11x11 box and cut out the front part so I can compose the void as I want. Next, I lined the inside of the box with white paper and then began composing the void of the box as I please. I used pink and red paper because I felt that they are the same color but different shades. It added depth to the void. Then, I created a hollow top for the 11X11 box to close it off. I lines the inside of the box with black paper. Finally, I closed the box off and cut small squares on each side of the box to allow light to come in.

Step 1. I made a plane and other forms using cardboard and tape. I had to measure all shapes to make the measurements were correct and equal. Step 2. I then cut into the form for each one to fit with in each other. I also connected all of the forms to create one form. Step 3. Finally, I used a navy blue to paint the form. I did 2-3 coats of paint to complete the final problem.
